Initial reactions and Observations

• Bayern did a decent job today. Some positives and negatives, but the overall goal of getting the win was achieved.
• Enjoy this sighting of the youth players, because who knows if they make the cut for the squad during the normal season.
• This is a friendly match, but Bayern still got into trouble against a “saved-from-relegation“ Lyon. Should alarm bells be ringing?
• The gap in quality between the starters and the subs is noticeable. Some players who used to be nailed in starters are now no better than a Sunday league player.
• Luis Diaz had a solid outing, too bad he didn’t get a goal.

Halftime Observations

• That was a pretty uneventful match, Bayern got a few chances but couldn’t score.
• Karl and Wanner looked good.

30’ — Still no goals, but Lennart Karl and Paul Wanner have been cooking.

19’ — Bayern in control of the match so far, but all attempts to score a goal end up thwarted.

Lineups are out! Tom Bischof makes a rare start in midfield, while Paul Wanner and Lennart Karl get a golden opportunity to start for Bayern. Dayot Upamecano makes his long-awaited return to the team, while Luis Diaz starts on the bench

After a frustrating summer break, Bayern Munich is back, and they managed to sign Luis Díaz who will make his debut for the Bavarians today against French club Olympique Lyonnais (or just Lyon). The German giants had a less-than-ideal end to the season, injuries and departures alike, but this is a new and (can you really call it that?) improved side to start the new season.

It cannot be ruled out that more signings are on their way, such as Nick Woltemade. The player is apparently smarting from his club VfB Stuttgart’s reluctance to let him leave, and with Bayern holding firm with their latest and final offer, there is a chance that the Swabians will relent and release their player.

For now, though, it’s great to see the Rekordmeister back in action.
