Joshua Jackson Files Emergency Custody Order Modification

NEED TO KNOW

  • Joshua Jackson filed a motion and request for an emergency custody order modification, claiming that his ex-wife enrolled their daughter in a school without asking him
  • Both the Doctor Odyssey actor and the Queen & Slim actress are in the midst of ongoing legal battle
  • The former couple share a daughter named Juno, whom they welcomed in 2020

Joshua Jackson has filed a motion and request for an emergency custody order modification.

The Doctor Odyssey star, 46, filed the motion on Friday, June 30, alleging that his ex-wife Jodie Turner-Smith changed their 5-year-old daughter Juno‘s school without his permission, according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE.

In his declaration, Jackson claims that Jodie asserts it’s “no big deal to force Juno to start over with a new school” and that he’s concerned that “Jodie is attempting to create a scenario where Juno travels with her rather than attending a traditional school.”

Jackson is requesting that the court orders Juno to keep attending the school she’s been going to for the next academic year and is asking for joint consent with Turner-Smith for any subsequent school changes.

Reps for both Jackson and Turner-Smith did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

After the former couple were first linked together in 2018, they secretly wed in 2019, which PEOPLE confirmed that December. The following month, they were spotted in Los Angeles together with Turner-Smith displaying a baby bump.

In April 2020, the former couple welcomed their baby girl. Although they kept the details private, reps confirmed to PEOPLE that “both mother and baby are happy and healthy.”

After four years of marriage, Turner-Smith filed for divorce in October 2023. At the time, the pair agreed to joint custody of their daughter. They settled their divorce in May 2025, agreeing that Jackson would pay $2,787 in monthly child support.

At the time, Turner-Smith and Jackson were unable to agree on where Juno would go to school. In court documents obtained by PEOPLE, Turner-Smith stated that after she and Jackson entered into a “stipulation and order to resolve the issue of selection of Juno’s school” in 2024, she had been granted the authority to “make the final decision” about her education — however, she would initially have to consult Jackson on the matter.

In October 2024, Turner-Smith said that when it comes to co-parenting their daughter  things can get “complicated.”

“It’s an adjustment period for anyone when they split up with someone because you’re used to being with your child all the time,” she shared in her GLAMOUR Woman of the Year cover story. “But nobody hands you a manual. Everyone’s trying to figure it out.”

Turner-Smith added, “Each parent has a different life, and especially if the reason why you’re splitting up is because you have different lives, it’s only further complicated by how you’re going to coparent.”
