If you thought we’d be leaving the summer of short shorts in the past, Harry Styles has other plans.
While the inseam debates rage on, Styles—like Hollywood’s other short-shorts apostles, a group that includes Paul Mescal, Donald Glover, Jeremy Allen White, and Chris Pine—has done his part to disseminate the micro-short gospel across land and sea. It helps that the singer has been on a running kick as of late (a famously shorts-friendly pastime); he even recently completed the Tokyo Marathon in a retro-style, four-inch-inseam pair by Tracksmith. As my British GQ colleague Murray Clark wrote last summer, “If you’re not wearing the sluttiest shorts ever to the gym, you’re doing it wrong.”
On Monday, Styles went for a stroll in London in sporty red gym shorts (they appeared to be the same ones he memorably wore during a recent Berlin trip), a black crewneck sweatshirt, and nylon Prada “Collapse” sneakers. The trendy yellow shade of his shoes matched both the singer’s phone case and well-worn merch tote bag from painter David Hockey’s 2023 “Drawing from Life” exhibition at London’s National Portrait Gallery—a show for which Styles, a noted art aficionado, posed for his very own portrait by the artist. He accessorized with dark Jacques Marie Mage shades and a vintage Thomas Kemper Brewing cap in bright purple corduroy.
It was a leggily conspicuous outing for the English pop star, who has maintained a relatively low profile over the last year. Fans have kept a watchful eye on his sundry whereabouts, which have included making those aforementioned pitstops in Tokyo and Berlin, attending fashion shows in London, and reportedly witnessing the election of Pope Leo XIV in Vatican City. With any luck, he’s been collecting experiences for a future memoir—or a new album.
