Industry insider Daniel Richtman claims a star of HBO drama Euphoria is being eyed up for the role
Rumors are swirling that Hunter Schafer is being lined up to star in the upcoming The Legend of Zelda movie.
Industry insider Daniel Richtman claims Hunter Schafer, a star of HBO drama Euphoria, is being eyed up for the role of Princess Zelda in the live-action movie adaption of the Nintendo video game. It comes after many Zelda fans called for Schafer to get the role because of her resemblance to the video game character.
Schafer has been praised for her role as transgender high school student Jules Vaughn in Euphoria and she is set to return for the show’s third and final season. The actress also portrayed Tigris Snow in the Hunger Games prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, as well as starring in horror movie Cuckoo.

Discussing the possibility of playing Zelda in a 2023 interview with Entertainment Tonight, Schafer said: “That would be so cool. I played that video game a bunch when I was a kid. That’s such a good game.”
No casting announcements have been made for the film, which is scheduled to hit cinemas on March 26, 2027. Schafer is not the only one who has expressed an interest in the role of Zelda. Patricia Summersett, the voice of the video game Zelda, has also said she would like to take on the role.
The role of Link, the hero of the video game, also needs to be filled. One popular choice with fans for that role is Percy Jackson and the Olympians star Walker Scobell.
When asked if he fancied taking in the role in an interview, Scobell seemed unsure. He told Variety: “Actually, I don’t know. I don’t know if I’d be interested in playing Link. If they came to me, I’d definitely consider it, one hundred percent.”
Scobell also revealed he was familiar with the Legend of Zelda games, saying, “I have played Breath of the Wild.”
He added: “I haven’t played the new one, Tears of the Kingdom, but my dad loves Legend of Zelda. He played the games when he was younger.”
The movie will be directed by Wes Ball, who worked on Maze Runner and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. Shigeru Miyamoto, Joe Hartwick Jr and Avi Arad will produce the flick.
Last August Hunter broke down in tears as she talked about the tragic death of her beloved Euphoria co-star Angus Cloud and his long-lasting impact on the show.
She told Alex Cooper on her Call Her Daddy podacast: “Obviously, I’m still coming to qualms with what has happened and losing people that we really loved and were a part of this family and everything. And I think that if we do go back that’s going to be tough.”
