Julia Roberts famously loves her privacy. The legendary actress took a big step back from Hollywood when she became a wife to Danny Moder and mom of three after 20 years in the industry, pressing pause on her hectic career to enjoy her life with her family. A life she at least partially spent curled up in her own personal hideaway on the island of Kauai for more than a decade. While we cannot know how it feels to be Julia Roberts, we can emulate her life in her former Hawaii home that is now on the market. Sure, it comes with a steep price tag, but wouldn’t an outdoor shower in Julia Roberts’ former home be worth it?
Roberts’ former home on the gorgeous North Shore of Kauai in the remote town of Hā‘ena recently went on the market, and it looks incredible. She and her family owned the home from 2009 to 2020, enjoying the 8.3 acres of unspoiled beachfront with world-class surf, views of the Pacific Ocean, Limahuli Valley, and Mount Makana. This home features three different buildings on the property, including a one-bed, one-bath caretakers’ cottage as well as the main 3,150 sqaure foot, four bedroom home with four bathrooms and an air-conditioned gym. The ranch-style home, which was built in 1970, also includes exposed beamed high ceilings, massive windows to take advantage of the jaw-dropping views, wood-paneled walls, and French doors leading out to a covered lanai. The amenities are endless and impressive, from the chef’s dream of a kitchen to the stunning primary bedroom with a spa-like bath and yes, a private outdoor shower.
Perhaps best of all? The property is right next to protected land that includes Hā‘ena State Park and the National Tropical Botanical Garden, so no worries about neighbors if you’re like the Pretty Woman star and just want to hang out on the beach and watch your husband catch some sweet waves.
Roberts and Moder sold their former Hawaiian retreat back in 2020 for around $20 million, while the current owners are looking for $30 million to let go of their home. The actress does seem to have a good eye for iconic real estate. Her 1912 five-storey San Francisco home went on the market in 2023 for $11.75 million, attracting buyers with its unparalleled views of the Golden Gate bridge and luxurious Presidio Heights location.
Perhaps all that time away from Hollywood helped Julia Roberts develop her excellent taste for real estate. Or perhaps it’s just the homebody in her that seeks out gorgeous spaces to hunker down with the family. Either way, we’re in.
