Power is back for some after scattered storms caused outages across Wake County.
In a post on XÂ Saturday evening, the Raleigh Police Department said traffic lights throughout the city
were down due to the storms.
According to Duke Energy, over 9,000 customers were without power in Wake County on Saturday. Around 6,000 of those outages were on Poole Road and
Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard due to a damaged major power line.
Several fast food restaurants, gas stations and grocery stores were without power for a couple of hours.
“When
the trees began to fall, you could here the transformer sound,” said Renee Woodberry, a Wake County resident. “We have one
of the power lines in the back of our yard, so it started to spark. It
started to light up and we were nervous it was going to catch on fire
because of how many trees it was surrounded by so it was just a lot.”
Duke Energy crews estimated power would be restored by 11:45 p.m. Raleigh police advised people to take extra precaution when
driving in case they come to an intersection without power.
Parts of Smithfield were also without power Saturday. In a post on Facebook, town of Smithfield leaders said crews were working as fast as they can to restore power. The Duke Energy feed to the
town’s substation was down.
