Patriots Day is fast approaching.
This year, the state-observed holiday falls on Monday, April 21.
Patriots Day, also known as Marathon Monday, will welcome thousands of runners and spectators along the 26.2 mile-long course from Main Street in Hopkinton to Boylston Street in Boston’s Back Bay.
Here’s your guide to what’s open and closed on Patriots Day.
Retail stores: Most will be open, but subject to owners’ discretion. Store hours may differ.
Liquor stores: Open.
Supermarkets: Open.
Bars, taverns: Open.
Federal offices: Open.
Public schools: Closed.
State, county, municipal offices: Closed.
State, municipal courts: Closed.
Massachusetts RMV: Closed.
Banks: Open.
Post offices: Open.
Public libraries: Closed, including all Boston Public Library locations.
Trash: Trash collection may be disrupted in some neighborhoods. Check Boston’s Trash and Recycling Day schedule and search.
Parking: Meters are free with no limit in Boston; parking restrictions are posted on the city’s website.
MBTA station closures: Copley Station will be closed all day. South Street, Kent Street and Saint Mary’s Street (all Green Line stations) are closed from about 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Subway: The Green, Red, Orange, Blue and Silver lines will operate on a regular weekday schedule, with additional service before and after the race. Bikes are not allowed on the subway on the day of the marathon.
Commuter rail: The Worcester Line will have additional inbound and outbound trains. All other Commuter Rail lines will operate on a regular weekday schedule. Bikes and scooters will not be allowed on board Worcester Line trains starting at 5 p.m. April 14 through the end of the day on April 15.
Buses: The Copley Square bus stop on St. James Avenue will be out of service from April 8 to 16. Riders will be redirected to the bus stop on St. James Avenue and Clarendon Street. All buses will operate on a Saturday schedule, but may be detoured. Routes 55 and 65 will be suspended for the day. Route 1 will run an increased Saturday schedule from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Routes 9, 10, 39, 43, 57, 62, and 76 will be detoured or shortened. Routes 354 and 501 will run on a modified schedule.
The Ride: The RIDE will operate on a regular weekday schedule, but may be detoured to accommodate the marathon and related events
Ferries: Ferries will operate on a regular weekday schedule.
