Like a couple of 90s rappers, Justin Pippen is going back to Cali.
The 6-foot-3 guard who spent his freshman season at Michigan is transferring to Cal, according to a report from On3 on Tuesday.
Pippen, the son of Basketball Hall of Famer Scottie, appeared in 28 games off the bench this past season. According to head coach Dusty May, Pippen suffered a possible concussion in a practice leading up to the Big Ten Tournament. He did not make the trip to Indianapolis, nor did he travel to NCAA Tournament games in Denver. Before Michigan left for Atlanta for the regional rounds, Pippen was in the transfer portal, entering the first day it opened.
Michigan lost in the Sweet 16 to Auburn and finished 27-10.
Pippen averaged 6.7 minutes and 1.6 points. He shot 8 for 30 from 3 and 12 for 44 overall (both 27 percent), while tallying 16 assists and six steals. He showed promise as a smart defender.
Pippen was the No. 106 prospect in the class, according to the 247Sports composite, coming out of Sierra Canyon High School in Chatsworth, California. Cal was among his finalists when he committed to May.
The Bears went 14-19 last season, their first in the ACC and second under head coach Mark Madsen. Cal, along with Stanford, joined the conference comprised mostly of teams on the East Coast.
