Most people are thrilled that WrestleMania 41 is right around the corner. Drew McIntyre isn’t, and with good reason.
McIntyre was a guest on the It’s Called Soccer podcast and spoke about the reason he’s sporting an eye patch right now. McIntyre suffered an unfortunate injury during a backstage fight with Damian Priest on SmackDown two weeks ago. Now his WrestleMania match with Priest is uncertain just eight days away from the event.
“I’m sporting the patch right now, really hoping I can figure this thing out and get myself on WrestleMania,” Drew McIntyre said. “It’s a fight against time right now.”

McIntyre doesn’t want to be dealing with this situation, but he’s thankful it wasn’t worse.
“It didn’t feel that bad, to be honest. I’ve never landed on a windshield before in my life, so they probably should have thrown me on the top of the car or on the concrete to hurt more,” he noted. “But I’ve never landed on a windshield. It’s designed to spider out, the glass, so when you land on it — I was wearing a leather jacket, thankfully I didn’t get all cut up — the fall wasn’t great but not as bad as I thought it was going to be. Yeah, some debris came up and landed straight in my eye, so I’m dealing with that right now.”
McIntyre was asked by co-host Rebecca Lowe how much of this was planned, and McIntyre said he didn’t want to say too much. Despite that, he had no problem making Priest the scapegoat.
“I’m not supposed to be sitting here with an eye patch,” McIntyre said. “Yet I am because of… let’s throw him under the bus, because of the clumsiness of my opponent. That’s why it happened.”

Drew McIntyre wasn’t joking about being injured
The March 28 episode of WWE SmackDown saw Drew McIntyre and Damian Priest brawl in the parking garage. Priest ended things after he hit South of Heaven on McIntyre through a car windshield. After this, CM Punk walked by laughing as McIntyre claimed he got glass in his eye.
“That was real glass… It got in my eye,” Drew McIntyre said in a Twitter/X post.
Many believed McIntyre was joking around, but according to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, McIntyre did indeed get something in his eye. It was initially believed a piece of glass caused the injury, but it was later updated that another piece of debris got in McIntyre’s eye.
